The rock is called Black Rock and it is the main hazard to ships coming into the Fal estuary. It is in the centre of the entrance to the Carrick Roads with Pendennis Castle on Pendennis Point to the west and St Mawes Castle and the Percuil River off to the east.

Seals are often seen on the exposed rocks at low water. This image shows St Anthony’s Lighthouse on the tip of the Roseland Peninsula in the background.
