This long sandy beach was awarded a Blue Flag in 2011 and is considered by many to be St Ives best beach for watersports and families. The beach faces directly northwards into the Atlantic Ocean and the brilliant light that has made St Ives a magnet for painters is truly reflected in the turquoise waters and white sands. It seems only appropriate that Tate St Ives, the gallery for modern and contemporary art, should have been opened in 1993 overlooking this beach.
