This is one of yachtings most eye catching events offering visitors the rare opportunity of watching four of the worlds most magnificent J class yachts racing in Falmouth Bay. Four yachts, Velsheda, Ranger, Lionheart and Rainbow, each weighing 200tons, 140feet long and with a crew of 30 will contest daily races.
Although, not an annual Falmouth sailing event it is hoped to be repeated again in the near future.
The first part of the festival is the UK National Championships between 5 and 7 May 2012.
This is followed by the Finn Gold Cup, an annual World Championship of the Finn Class, with over 100 boats from 50 nations taking part in a series of 11 races between 13 and 18 May.
The race is approximately 2,500 miles long, carried out over about three weeks. The first leg is 1,220 miles from Falmouth to the Azores which usually takes about 7 to 10 days.
After a week to recover the return passage is undertaken.
The AZAB race is hosted by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club in Falmouth.
